Google's Project Astra camera, screen-sharing features rolling out on Android
What's the story
As promised at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this month, Google has started rolling out its Project Astra-powered camera and screen sharing features to Gemini Live.
According to a report, an Android user activated the Gemini overlay and discovered a new "Share screen with Live" button above the existing "Ask about screen" suggestion chip and Ask Gemini field.
It lets you share your entire screen, though single app sharing isn't available yet.
Camera features
New real-time camera capabilities activated
The same user also reported access to new real-time camera capabilities to interact with the world.
This feature can be accessed by opening the full Gemini Live interface and starting a video stream. A button for switching to the front-facing camera is located in the bottom-right corner of this interface.
Despite these advancements, it appears these features aren't yet live on all devices tested today.
Expansion plans
Project Astra availability and future prospects
The report of these new features comes from a Xiaomi phone and Google One subscriber.
Earlier this month, Google announced Astra would be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers (AI Premium starts at $19.99/month) as well as Android devices in general.
However, in January, the tech giant had said Pixel and Galaxy S25 series owners will be "among the first to get Project Astra capabilities like screen sharing and live video streaming."
