Pixel Watch 3 calls for help if your pulse stops
What's the story
Google has finally got the green signal from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its groundbreaking 'Loss of Pulse Detection' feature on the Pixel Watch 3.
The tech giant intends to roll out the life-saving capability to US devices by the end of March.
The feature has been successfully rolling out in European Union countries since September 2024.
Functionality
How does the pulse detection feature work?
The Loss of Pulse Detection feature will alert users if their Pixel Watch 3 detects a possible loss of pulse from a heart attack, overdose, poisoning or other reasons.
If the user doesn't respond, the watch will automatically dial emergency services.
As per the tech giant, the feature can differentiate between a real loss-of-pulse event and just removing the watch.
Approval process
Regulatory hurdles for health features
The rollout of advanced health features such as the Loss of Pulse Detection will depend on regulatory approval, with every country having its own governing bodies and processes.
The decision to expand this feature to other regions will depend on approval from respective local regulatory agencies.
This means that the availability of this potentially life-saving feature on Pixel Watch 3 could vary across global markets.
