First look at Google's 'Pixel Stand' wireless charging dock
As Google gears up to unveil its latest flagships, a new smart accessory from the company has surfaced on the internet- a wireless charging dock called "Pixel Stand". The device has long been in the rumor mill, but a recent teardown of the latest Google app by 9To5Google gave us true insight into its capabilities. Here's all we know about it.
Charging new Pixels with an active assistant
Though the teardown didn't showcase the product, it did reveal some animations highlighting Pixel Stand's functionality. One animation, for instance, showcased a phone sitting on the dock in portrait mode and displaying notifications for calendar, texts, alarms, music playback. This indicates the device will trigger assistant functions on the phone while charging it. It even aligns with leaked Google Assistant UI for the dock.
Smart display like photo slideshow
Apart from the smart Assistant, Google's upcoming Pixel Stand might even have some sort of photo slideshow functionality. This, as another animation dug from the app suggested, should be seen when the phone is left idle for charging and there are no notifications to be displayed. It is said to be very similar to Google photos' "Photo frame" feature for smart displays.
Possible launch on October 9
The new Pixel Stand could be unveiled alongside Google's Pixel 3 and 3 XL at an event on October 9 in New York City. The two flagships are expected to offer improved capabilities over their predecessors but have already been spotted in several leaks.
Full details still remain unknown
The latest findings from 9To5Google do give us some idea of the Pixel Stand, but we still don't know its full capabilities. For one, it remains to be seen if the device would work with all Android phones or just the new Pixels. Further, there is no word on the price of the stand.
