Pixel 9 series leak reveals Tensor G4 specs and benchmarks
Google will introduce the Pixel 9 series sometime in Q4 2024. Ahead of the official debut, the leaked details of the upcoming Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL have provided insights into the specifications of the Tensor G4. Benchmark test results from Rozetked reveal a core configuration of 1+3+4 in the Tensor G4. The prime Cortex-X4 is followed by three middle Cortex-A720 cores and four little Cortex-A520 cores.
Performance improvements and efficiency gains
As per the preliminary benchmark results, the Cortex-X4, used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, offers a 15% performance improvement and a 40% increase in power efficiency compared to its predecessor. The A720 core provides a boost of 20% in power efficiency over its previous version. Similarly, the A520 core boasts an efficiency gain of approximately 22%.
AnTuTu benchmarks show high scores
The AnTuTu benchmarks for the Tensor G4 on the Pixel 9 series indicate some performance improvements. The Pixel 8 scored 877,443 points, while the new Pixel 9 (Tokay) achieved a score of 1,016,167 points. The scores for the Pixel 9 Pro (Caiman) and the Pixel 9 Pro XL (Komodo) were even higher at 1,148,452 points and 1,176,410 points respectively.
Upcoming Pixel 10 expected to switch to TSMC
The forthcoming Tensor G5 on the Pixel 10 is anticipated to switch to TSMC. This year's Pixel 9 and its Samsung-made chip might carry a significant note for potential buyers. Previous leaks suggested that the Tensor G4 would utilize Samsung's latest 4nm process and packaging method. The FOWLP (Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging) is expected to further enhance heat management and power efficiency.
