Pixel 8a renders fully reveal Google's next low-cost smartphone
Google created a buzz with the recent unveiling of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and they are set to go on sale later this week. In the latest development, renders of the more affordable Pixel 8a have emerged, giving us a sneak peek into the design and size of the upcoming smartphone. Shared by @OnLeaks and SmartPrix, these renders are based on CAD files and reveal a more rounded form factor, a departure from the boxy Pixel 7a.
Expected launch window for Pixel 8a
The Pixel 7a made its debut in May 2023, which leads us to believe that the Pixel 8a could be unveiled around Google I/O in 2024. However, the Pixel A-series has had an unpredictable release schedule, so the launch could happen anytime in the next few months. The fresh design is in line with the recently launched Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, sporting a similar camera module and overall look.
The device sports speaker grills at the bottom
The leaked renders of the Pixel 8a show a full-width camera visor on the back with two sensors. The front has a flat-screen design with a hole-punch camera cutout at the top, slim bezels on the sides, and a tiny chin at the bottom. The display is covered with 2.5D curved glass, while a Type-C port and stereo speakers can be found at the bottom edge.
It is taller and slimmer than its predecessor
The Pixel 8a measures 152.1x72.6x8.9mm, making it a tad taller and slimmer than its predecessor. Although the display stays at 6.1 inches, the rounded corners might make it feel smaller. The device's top edge houses an ultra-wideband antenna and earpiece, the Google logo is placed on the back, SIM tray is on the left, and the power button and volume rocker sit on the right. Cellular antenna bands are visible on the top, left, and right edges.
Pixel 8a has visited Geekbench in the past
The Pixel 8a, codenamed "Akita," was earlier spotted on the Geekbench. The listing reveals that the device will be powered by an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 chipset, paired with the Mali-G715 GPU. It will come with 8GB of RAM and run on Android 14. The Pixel 8a scored 1,218 in single-core performance and 3,175 in multi-core performance.
