Google Pixel 4 may get this iPhone feature: Report
Google's Pixel 4 looks primed to take things to the next level. The upcoming device has been teased to feature a new design and debut the first-ever multi-lens rear camera on a Pixel flagship. But that's not all. According to XDA-Developers, Google is working to add wide-color capture support on the Pixel 4 camera--a feature iPhones have offered since 2016. Here's more.
Pixel 4: The first Android phone to get wide-color capture
Currently, none of the Android-based phones offer wide-color photos because Android apps don't support wide-color gamuts like Display P3 and Adobe RGB. But things are set to change. Last month Google announced that wide-color photos are coming to Android Q. And now, a developer has spotted code in Google's Camera app that allows for P3 color capture, suggesting Pixel 4 will support wide-color photos.
Why is wide-color capture important?
Modern camera sensors are capable of taking photos with a wider range of color outside of sRGB. But since the apps can't process all the colors, you can't view true wide-color pictures on your phone. Therefore, with wide-color capture support coming to Android, developers can take advantage of display and camera technology to offer end-to-end wide-color photography with vibrant colors and realistic feel.
Meanwhile, here is what's changing on Pixel 4
Design-wise, Google is replacing the dual-tone matte+gloss design with clean monochrome glass back and a metal frame. Notably, the rear panel will also house a multi-lens camera setup with two imaging sensors and a third flicker/spectral sensor or Time-of-Flight sensor. Lastly, the Pixel 4 will also jettison the physical fingerprint reader in favor of an in-display fingerprint scanner or a 3D facial recognition system.
Everything else we know about Pixel 4 series
Like other flagships of 2019, the upcoming Pixel 4 series will be powered by Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset. Further, we expect to see upto 8GB RAM, upto 256GB of storage, QHD+ AMOLED displays, Active Edge sensors, and bigger batteries. On the software side, the upcoming flagships will debut the revamped Google Assistant as well as the latest Android Q mobile platform.
