Google Photos now finally lets you flip images: Here's how
Google Photos has introduced a new image flipping tool that enables users to mirror photos horizontally. This latest addition enhances the app's existing capabilities, which include smart organization, editing options, and easy sharing. The horizontal flip feature is currently available to a select group of users, with plans for a broader rollout in the near future through server-side deployment.
New feature enhances photo editing capabilities
Prior to this update, Google Photos users could only rotate, resize or adjust the aspect ratio of their images using the app's crop tool. The new horizontal flip option will be located next to the rotate button once the update is fully deployed. This feature will also available for videos, as reported by Android Authority via Mishaal Rehman. Previously, users had to rely on third-party apps or other methods for a similar effect.
How to use the new feature
To use the tool, users need to open the photo they want to flip and tap on the "Edit" button. The "Flip" option can be found within the crop tools. Tapping this option will mirror the image horizontally. This update is expected to be accessible to all users soon. While it may seem minor, it provides a valuable enhancement for both casual users and professional photographers by streamlining photo editing processes.
Google Photos rolls out 'Ask Photos' feature in US
In addition to the image flipping feature, Google Photos has also started rolling out the "Ask Photos" feature to users in the US. Announced at Google I/O 2024, this feature uses advanced Gemini models to understand a user's photo gallery context. It can identify key people, hobbies, and favorite foods to help locate specific memories and improve the search experience within the app. The Ask Photos feature is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
