Google Assistant might soon hold your calls for you
Google is reportedly developing a new feature for its Phone app that could allow users to put incoming calls on hold, according to Android Authority. This information was revealed through an APK teardown of the latest Google Phone beta (version 141.0.662309765), which uncovered evidence of a potential "Ask to hold" feature via code strings. However, it's important to note that not all features predicted through APK teardowns make it to public release.
How will the new feature work?
The "Ask to hold" feature could potentially enable Google Assistant to place selected calls on hold. One of the strings discovered in the beta version reads, "You can answer when you're ready." This suggests that users may have the flexibility to respond to calls at their convenience. Currently, the Google Phone app allows users to put calls on hold by tapping a pause icon.
It could offer potential improvements
The existing hold feature in the Google Phone app includes an audio alert that informs callers they have been put on hold. It's speculated that the "Ask to hold" feature could be an improved version of this existing functionality or a complete revamp.
