Google One app removes 'Support' tab from the bottom bar
Google One has recently made several changes to its app on Android, including the removal of the 'Support' tab from the bottom bar, which now includes just Home, Storage, and Benefits. Previously, this tab provided quick access to Phone, Chat, and Email options as well as features like "Explore Pro Sessions," "Popular articles," and "Review your support history." Now users must navigate through the "Help" > Contact Us option for support services.
Changes could indicate deprioritization of Google expert access
The removal of the 'Support' tab might suggest a potential deprioritization of the "Access to Google experts" perk, a long-standing feature of Google One. Notably, this perk is no longer listed on one.google.com as of mid-April. Despite these changes, Google One members can still access support services today via chat, phone calls, or email as stated in a support article, which might not have been updated yet.
Other modifications and unmentioned support alterations
Google did not mention any changes to support when it announced other modifications, like the phasing out of free Google Photos shipping, and the VPN. At the same time, it revealed that AI-backed Google Photos editing tools would become free and Magic Editor would be widely available. However, over 10 edits per month would require a 2TB+ Google One subscription.
