Google Messages developing parental control feature: How it'll work
Google is reportedly developing a new feature for its default messaging app, Google Messages, according to PiunikaWeb. This upcoming addition will allow parents to review their children's messages before they are sent. The information was discovered in a recent version of Google Messages where a notification related to the new feature was found. This feature is believed to be in the early stages of development, with more details about its functionality and deployment anticipated in the coming days.
Parental control feature not yet functional
The parental control feature in Google Messages is not yet active and its exact workings remain unclear at this stage. However, as revealed in version 20240416_00_RC01, parental controls will enable parents to restrict their children from sending messages until approval is granted. In case of unapproved conversations, a message will be displayed stating: To send, ask your parent for approval.
Parental controls to operate via Family Link app
The speculated operation of these parental controls in Google Messages is on a per-contact basis, managed through Google's existing Family Link app. The controls are expected to apply to both SMS and RCS messages.
