Google Messages rolls out redesigned audio recorder and Voice Moods
Google's Messages is broadening the reach of its recently revamped audio recorder interface and Voice Moods feature, specifically targeting beta users. This development comes after the tech giant added voice memo support to the Messages Wear OS app in October last year. The updated recording interface can now be accessed by simply tapping on the voice memo button, located conveniently in the bottom-right section of a conversation.
Enhanced user experience
The previous method of long-pressing to access the recording interface remains an option, but now a new indicator informs users about the ability to swipe up or unlock the updated interface. The revamped interface offers a user-friendly experience, allowing users to tap on the microphone icon below to start recording. Once recording begins, users see a waveform and options to Restart, Stop, and immediately Attach (only in SMS conversations).
Noise cancellation and improved audio quality
Google has also added a new Noise cancellation feature to its updated interface, complete with an on/off control. The tech giant stated that they have improved the overall sound quality of voice messages by increasing the bitrate as well as sampling rate. This enhancement aims to provide users with clearer and more audible voice messages.
Voice Moods for animated emojis
The latest update introduces a fun feature called Voice Moods, allowing users to choose from nine animated emoji backgrounds for their audio message card. This feature underwent a Material 3 change this March. If expressive animations are turned off, these emojis remain static. The emojis available include Smiling Face with Hearts, Loudly Crying Face, Slightly Smiling Face, Enraged Face, Rolling on the Floor Laughing, Partying Face, Face with Open Mouth, Face with Rolling Eyes, and Crying Face.
