Google Meet may soon stop working on these platforms
Google is reportedly gearing up to bid adieu to its Meet app for Android TV and Google TV. Launched back in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic as Duo, the video conferencing tool was all about letting users connect a webcam to their TV and join video calls on a bigger screen. But, recent buzz says that this feature might soon be on the chopping block.
Recent update hints at discontinuation
According to Android Authority, some code in the latest update for Google Meet on Android TV and Google TV hints that the app might be shutting down. The code even mentions the word "depreciation" and says, "Soon you won't be able to use Google Meet on your Android TV to make calls. Click below for alternatives and to learn more." Although this message isn't active in the app just yet, it seems to reveal Google's plans for the future.
Google Meet's discontinuation on Samsung TVs
This isn't the first time Google has made such a move. In March, the company pulled the plug on Meet for Samsung TVs. However, it's a bit puzzling to see this happen on Google's own platform, especially since Google TV had earlier this year added support for "Call Notifications," with Meet being the app enabling that feature. For now, the app is still working, but users might want to start looking for alternatives.
