Google Maps now predicts how much you'll like a restaurant
Google now helps you find 'matches', but not in the Tinder kind of way. On Tuesday, the tech giant updated its Google Maps service for iOS to include a feature that 'matches' people to restaurants, predicting how much the user is likely to enjoy an establishment. Once updated, the iOS Google Maps app will show match percentages of restaurants found on Maps. Here's more.
Google Maps' description on the App Store has been updated
"Our new 'match' feature will help you find your one true love. And by love, we mean your next favorite cheeseburger. Tap on a food or drink spot to see how likely you are to enjoy it," reads Google Maps' description on the App Store.
Android users had received the feature a month back
At Google's I/O developers conference in May, the tech giant had announced a slew of new features for Maps aimed at making discovering places easier, without the help of other, third-party services. The new match feature is part of that package. Notably, it's not new - the feature has been available on Android for about a month and now, iOS is getting it too.
Details about Google Maps' matching feature
The feature uses machine learning to arrive at match percentages. Data used include Google's data on a restaurant, a user's food and drink preferences on Google Maps, establishments visited in the past, ratings given to restaurants etc. Notably, match percentages change as a user's tastes and preferences evolve over time. Additionally, based on your match, it also suggests further places to explore.
