Google Search's new filter lets you quickly find short videos
Google Search, a widely used tool for finding web content, is currently testing a new filter called 'Short Videos.' This feature is specifically designed for mobile users. The short video format has gained popularity through social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok due to its engaging visual appeal. YouTube has also embraced this format, with some content creators focusing solely on short-format videos.
Google's new filter to simplify short video search
Until now, Google has categorized short video content like Shorts alongside other web links in search results or under the Videos filter. SEO consultant Brodie Clark recently noticed Google testing a new Short Videos search filter for mobile users globally. This test aligns with other filters such as Forums, and US-specific filters like Products and Product Sites. The new feature aims to simplify the user experience by eliminating the need for specific keywords in search queries.
Short videos filter showcases portrait-orientation content
The new Short Videos filter, when enabled, showcases portrait-orientation content like YouTube Shorts and TikTok videos in a dual-column layout. This feature was also detected by tipster and feature researcher AssembleDebug on X, further confirming its global testing. While there's no official announcement about a similar filter for desktop searches yet, it's worth noting that short-video content is primarily designed for mobile use.
