It's happening: Google Home speakers to debut in India
What can you do with Google Home speakers?
Powered by Google Assistant, these voice-enabled smart speakers can perform a plethora of tasks - play music, set alarm or reminders, get news updates, cast videos and control smart home appliances. These speakers can also be customized using interchangeable bases that come in several color options. In addition to Google's default Play Music service, the speakers also support Gaana and Saavn streaming services.
Google Assistant to get support for Indian English
Google is reportedly planning to add support for Indian English to Google Assistant to aid Google Home's India launch. Recently, the Google Assistant became officially available in Hindi, complete with conversational support in the language.
Google Home smart speakers already have a competition
Interestingly, Google Home smart speakers will face competition from Amazon's Echo. Launched last year in India, Amazon's Echo speakers offer Saavn music service along with other services such as online food delivery via Zomato, Amazon shopping, booking cabs via Ola and Uber, among other options. With Google competing directly with Amazon, this space would become interesting.
