Google Go app now available for all Android devices
A year and a half after its initial launch in select markets, Google has released the lightweight 'Go' app for users around the globe. The app is designed for entry-level Android devices and helps users find information on the internet. Notably, it only requires a little over 7MB of storage, and is now supported on all devices running on Android Lollipop (5.0) and above.
Google Go works fine with spotty connections also
Google Go is essentially a search app designed for low-end devices. It is touted to quickly offer search results even on slow and spotty connections. Google notes that the search results have been optimized to save up to 40% data. And, in case you lose internet connectivity, the app remembers your search query and retrieve results once the connection is established.
The app also comes with Google Lens capabilities
Earlier this year, Google added Lens functionality into the Go app, bringing smart features to low-end handsets. With this handy feature, you can point the phone's camera to some text or image to hear the words, translate them, or both. Google Go app also comes with an AI-powered feature that can read out loud the text from webpages.
You can also find what's popular and trending
You can use Google Go to explore the latest trending topics just by tapping on Search. Further, you can tap on "Images" or "GIFs" to find the best photos and animated files that can be shared in chats.
Google has an entire Go-branded ecosystem
Google Go is one of the many Go-branded apps that the tech giant offers for users in emerging markets like the Indian sub-continent, South Asia and Africa. There's also Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Files Go, Maps Go, Gallery Go and Google Assistant Go, among others. Alongside these apps, Google also has Android Go, a lite version of its mobile operating system for entry-level devices.
