Google Gemini live now supports 9 Indian languages, including Hindi
Google has announced that its conversational AI feature, Gemini Live, will now support nine additional Indian languages. The announcement was made by Hema Budaraju, the product lead of Google's search team, at the Google for India 2024 event today. The newly supported languages include Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu. This expansion aims to make the feature more accessible to a wider range of users in India.
Gemini Live's initial availability and recent expansion
Initially, Gemini Live was exclusively available to Gemini Advanced users. However, Google recently made this feature freely accessible to all Android and iOS users in 10 different voices. Now, with the addition of nine Indian languages, the feature has become even more user-friendly. Budaraju highlighted that "over 40% of Gemini Indian language users are already using the voice feature," indicating its popularity among non-English speakers in India.
Gemini Live's impact and future developments
Budaraju emphasized the potential impact of this development, stating that it could be a "game changer for teachers, entrepreneurs, artists, and everyone." She also revealed that "Gemini is constantly learning and growing," and its models are helping to reimagine Google Search. The conversational AI feature allows users to engage in natural voice conversations on their phones with real-time responses. Additionally, Google plans to extend its search's AI overviews from English and Hindi to other Indian languages in the coming weeks.
