What is Essentials, Google's latest app for Windows users
Google has unveiled a new application, Google Essentials, designed to consolidate its key services into a single platform. The app will be pre-installed on upcoming Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptops and will include popular services like Google Photos, Drive, and Messages. In addition to providing shortcuts to these frequently used services, the app will also centralize user's Google account information and saved content such as documents, photos, and games from Google Play Games.
Google Essentials offers trial of Google One cloud storage
Google Essentials also offers a two-month trial of Google One cloud storage with a capacity of 100GB to eligible users. This feature further enhances the app's functionality by providing additional storage space for users' data. The app will initially be available on new HP laptops, including models like the Spectre, Envy, Pavilion, OMEN and Victus. However, Google has plans to expand its availability to other Windows PC brands in the future.
Google Essentials mirrors concept of Windows Live Essentials
The concept behind Google Essentials is reminiscent of the old Windows Live Essentials, a collection of Microsoft applications that provided quick access to apps like Mail, Movie Maker, Messenger and Writer. This similarity suggests that Google's new app aims to streamline user experience by offering a one-stop solution for accessing its various services. An archived version of the Windows Live Essentials installer is available on the Internet Archive for reference.
