Now, Google's AI will help you type in Docs
In a bid to take on the likes of Microsoft Word, Google has started deploying AI-powered Smart Compose and auto-correction capabilities in Docs, its own cloud-based word processor. The company had announced the features all the way back in November to automate typing for Docs users, and now, they are rolling out to the public. Here's all you need to know about it.
Gmail's Smart Compose to type sentences quickly, correctly
On Gmail, Google has been using Smart Compose as a tool to suggest words and phrases for completing emails. The feature leverages the power of AI and machine learning to learn from your writing style over time and make appropriate suggestions to help you finish your sentences quickly and correctly. Now, the exact same thing is coming to Google Docs, 9to5Google reports.
How this tool will work in Docs?
Google had announced Smart Compose for Docs last year, but the feature was available only in beta for G Suite users. Now, the capability is entering general availability and can be used by any G Suite user to get personalized suggestions while typing. The suggestions appear in grey, following which you can either accept them by hitting 'Tab' or ignore by continuing to type.
Now, this will make typing a whole lot easier
The smart suggestions from Google not just add context to texts but also make typing easier by helping you cut down on repetitive phrases, spelling, and grammatical errors. However, if you don't happen to like the AI-based suggestions, Google will also let you disable them by simply going to Tools > Preferences and unchecking the "Show Smart Compose Suggestions" option.
Auto correction is also in tow
Along with Smart Compose, which will be available to all G Suite users in the next few weeks, Google is also rolling out full-fledged auto-correction for both G Suite and free account users. The capability will automatically correct spelling and grammatical errors in sentences and highlight the changes with a grey underline, allowing the user to undo them if needed.
