"Google Pay" launched; will arrive on India's Google Tez, too
Google has announced it is integrating all its digital payments services, including the Android Pay and Google Wallet, under a new, unified one called "Google Pay". The new payment service is aimed at simplifying payments for different online services for international users. Google has also confirmed that it would be bringing Google Pay services to Google Tez users in India, too. Here's more.
Making payments simpler, safer, and more convenient
Google Pay basically combines "all the different ways to pay with Google" into a single brand, said the tech-giant. With this new digital payments system, users' payment information is saved directly in their Google account so that it is available whenever they use Google products including, online purchases in Chrome, subscription renewal in YouTube, in-app purchases, and also at stores with NFC payments.
A bunch of apps, websites already support Google Pay
According to Google, Google Pay has already made its debut on several apps and websites. Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse, and Instacart among others already support Google Pay option. It said more websites, apps, and stores are set to roll out Google Pay option in the coming weeks. Developers can also apply to work with Google for integrating Pay into their apps or sites.
Google Pay looks similar to Android Pay
Google Payments' Product Management Vice-President, Pali Bhat, wrote on the company's official blog site that Google Pay saves user payment information for easy checkout. He added information would be saved in Google Chrome, YouTube, Google Play and more for making purchases across the web, videos, movies, and apps. However, the process does not look very different from that of Android Pay.
Latest Google service lets you pay friends, too!
Pali Bhat said: "With Google Pay, it'll be easier for you to use the payment information saved to your Google Account. Over the coming weeks, you'll see Google Pay online, in store, and across Google products, as well as when you're paying friends."
Google Tez to integrate Pay services for Indian users
Bhat also confirmed that Google Pay service would be coming to India through its existing Google Tez service. However, he did not share any further details about the same. To recall, Tez was launched in September last year in the country; it is a UPI-based payments service. Google partnered with major Indian banks including SBI, ICICI, HDFC, and Axis for the service.
Tez allows payments directly from bank accounts
Google Tez allows users to pay directly from their bank accounts. They need not create a separate account or reload wallet. Tez has "Cash Mode" using which users can instantly send/receive money to nearly Tez users without sharing bank details or mobile numbers.
