Google Calendar receives a Gemini upgrade for smarter schedule management
What's the story
Google is testing a new feature, Gemini side panel, in its Calendar app.
The AI-driven tool aims to make schedule management tasks like checking schedules, creating events, and fetching event details simpler and faster.
Already available in Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat, the Google Calendar is the latest Workspace app to get a Gemini side panel.
User interface
How to access Gemini panel?
To use the Gemini side panel, users will have to click on the "Ask Gemini" icon at the top right corner of their Google Calendar window.
Clicking on it will show a list of suggested prompts and a space to enter your own prompt.
Suggested prompts include "Find the next meeting." You can also type your own search queries like "When is my next meeting with Emily?" or "How many meetings do I have on Monday?"
Event management
It streamlines event creation process
The Gemini side panel is also aimed at saving you from manual additions in the calendar.
For example, you can tell Gemini "Add lunch with my parents to my schedule at 11:00am Tuesday" or "Add a workout to my calendar every weekday at 6:00am."
However, do note that you'll still have to manually invite others while creating an event.
As of now, the Gemini side panel in Calendar is only available through Google Workspace Labs.
