Google Assistant to add support for 30 languages, including Hindi
Google has announced that its digital voice-based Google Assistant will support more than 30 languages by year end. With the update, it will reportedly reach 95% of all eligible Android phones worldwide. The new languages include Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Indonesian, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai, among others. Currently, Google Assistant supports only eight languages. Here is more on it.
It will speak to you in more than one language
Google Assistant will also get multilingual. So if a user speaks two languages and they are supported by Google Assistant as well, the two can chat in both of them. Google said, "If you prefer to speak German at work, but French at home, your Assistant is right there with you." Such multilingual support will initially be only available in English, French, and German.
Get multiple tasks done with a single command
Google Assistant is also set to get a Routines feature that lets users get multiple things done with a single command. Google said, "You can use six routines that help with your morning, commutes to and from work, and evening. For example, say "Hey Google, I'm home" and the Assistant can turn on the lights, share any home reminders, and play your favorite music."
Features galore in the new Google Assistant update
And finally, Google Assistant is getting a location-based reminders feature, which was previously only available on smartphones. Google said, "Want to make sure you pick up the milk at the grocery store? All you have to do is ask the Assistant on your smart speaker, and when you get to the store, the Assistant will remind you."
Google Assistant directly competes with Amazon's Alexa
Google Assistant, the artificial intelligence software on Google Home smart speakers and Android smartphones, aims to up the company's game in the market for connected devices. The updates come amid intense competition from Amazon's Alexa-powered hardware and other AI-based devices by Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung.
