Google app testing built-in screenshot-editing feature
The Google app has rolled out an update in beta that allows users to edit and share screenshots from within the app itself. This means that once a screenshot is taken, it can be directly shared from the app without the need to go to the gallery of a device. The new feature is available in version 7.21 of the Google app.
Users can doodle on a screenshot in the Google app
Once the feature is live, users will be prompted with a panel at the bottom of the screen after taking a screenshot to either edit or share it. Editing a screenshot includes capabilities of cropping, scribbling and doodling on it. Sharing a screenshot will be done through a pop-up window on the Google app that will feature all supported apps on a user's device.
Here is how the feature can be accessed
Beta users of the Google app can turn on the feature by going into 'Settings,' then 'Accounts and Settings,' and then toggling on an option that reads 'Edit and Share Screenshots in the Google App.' Notably, the feature will work across all parts of the Google app including Search, Feed, and even Chrome web pages that are visited through another app.
The feature resembles Apple's Markup tool on iOS 11
Google's screenshot feature can be compared to Apple's Markup tool that is available on iOS 11. As you must have guessed it, the tool offers a preview of an immediate screenshot for a couple of seconds, within which time users can edit and share it from whichever app they are on. Further, the screenshot can also be deleted or saved right from the preview.
