Stay in touch with friends through Garden (and not Facebook)
The recent Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal and the social network's blatant disregard for user privacy and security have led some people to look for alternative ways to connect with friends and family. To that end, a new app called Garden has launched on iOS that offers you a more personal way to schedule meetings with private and professional contacts. Here are the details.
Founder Zander Adell got busy being an entrepreneur, lost friends
Garden was created by Zander Adell, who was the CEO of the now-defunct last-mile package delivery start-up Doorman. Adell said, "I got so busy running my last start-up that I neglected my closest personal relationships." Later Adell started keeping a record of his meetings in a big spreadsheet, and on knowing that others have also built similar spreadsheets, the idea for Garden was incepted.
"Don't expect relationships to thrive without putting in time"
"Maintaining a real personal or business relationship that adds value and meaning to life takes regular and substantive effort. Just like you can't expect plants in a garden to stay healthy without watering them, don't expect relationships to thrive without putting in time," Adell said.
Set reminder for how often you want to meet friends
Users can set a reminder frequency of wanting to meet different people on the app which can range from weekly, monthly, and quarterly to every six months. They can track how often they catch up with their friends and leave notes and details in the app about their last conversation with them. Garden can effectively manage both personal and professional relationships.
But what about data privacy?
In terms of privacy, Adell claimed that all the data on the app is hosted in the cloud and transferred securely. He added that the app will not spam your friends. Please note that Garden's database primarily consists of your personal contacts.
