Forget maps! Instagram's new feature helps you find hotspots
What's the story
Instagram's new "Map Search" feature (currently only available on the latest Android app version) lets you explore new places through geotagged posts and stories.
It includes location searches, category filters, story viewing, and the ability to save or share interesting spots.
Here is a handy guide on how to use the Map Search to its fullest.
Updating app
Ensuring access to map search
To use the Map Search feature, you first need to make sure your Instagram app is updated.
This feature is included in the latest updates, so it's essential to have the most recent version installed on your Android device.
You can find updates in the Google Play Store under My Apps and Games.
Access and search
Discovering new places
Open Instagram and head to the Explore tab by clicking the magnifying glass icon at the bottom.
You'll see a search bar at the top of the Explore section. Click it and type in the name of a city, area, or specific location you want to explore.
Then, select "Places" from the dropdown menu to enter the map view.
Navigate and filter
Exploring through map
The map view will show geotagged places highlighted across different locations.
You can simply drag around to explore or click on any place marker to view more details, including posts and stories tagged there.
Use category filters for restaurants or cafes by selecting them directly on the map interface.
Searching with location-specific hashtags like #takeaway or #coffee will refine your exploration.
Viewing stories and sharing locations
Engaging with content
Tap on the colored circles on the map to see stories tagged at those locations. This way you can see content from people who have visited there.
For saving or sharing locations, use the ribbon (for saving) or message icon (for sharing).
You can find your saved locations under "Saved" and then "Places" in your profile.
