Fitbit users given 3-month deadline to switch to Google Wallet
Fitbit, the globally recognized fitness tracker brand, has issued a notice informing its users of an impending change in their mobile payment system. The company has given its users a three-month deadline to transition from Fitbit Pay to Google Wallet. This move is part of Google's broader strategy to migrate all Fitbit accounts by 2025, following its acquisition of the brand.
Google's gradual integration of Fitbit features
Google, after acquiring Fitbit, initially maintained a hands-off approach toward the fitness tracker brand. However, it has gradually begun to integrate features such as Google Wallet into Fitbit's system. Earlier this year, Fitbit users were informed about the need to transition from Fitbit Pay to Google Wallet for continued mobile payments, via their wrist devices. This change was first announced on the company's website in March 2024, and has been actively communicated since then.
Benefits and restrictions of the transition to Google Wallet
The shift to Google Wallet is expected to offer Fitbit users a more robust mobile payment platform. It promises faster checkouts when using Google Pay. However, until July 29, Fitbit Pay will remain functional with certain limitations, such as the inability to add new cards. Fitbit is encouraging its users to familiarize themselves with Google Wallet ahead of the switch for a seamless transition.
