Fitbit launches Ace, a fitness tracker just for kids
With several companies including Garmin already offering wearables for kids, Fitbit's newest fitness tracker is not much of a surprise. However, the company is definitely late to catch up with the trend. The Fitbit Ace, borrowing design elements from the company's Alta tracker, is aimed at kids aged 8 to 13 and will go on sale for $99.95 by summer this year. Here's more.
Fitbit's first tracker aimed at kids
The FitBit Ace, compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), comes with a new family account feature, which gives parents control over their child's tracker. Parents can add their kid's Ace tracker to a family account on their own smartphones and approve connections of their child's tracker. Parents can also review their kid's activity progress and sleep trends on their devices.
Track your kid's fitness activity and sleep patterns
In terms of functionality, the Ace can automatically count steps, monitor sleep and activity minutes, and also notify kids with reminders (which can be muted during school hours). The Ace's default move goal is set at 60 minutes which is in line with WHO's recommendation that children between the ages of 5 and 17 should, per day, get an hour of physical activity.
New features that will soon be introduced
Fitbit will soon be introducing - Family Faceoff - a feature that lets kids compete against the other members of their family account. With in-app badges, the Fitbit app will reward children when they achieve their health goals. The showerproof Ace band will last for five days on a single charge and will be available in two color options - Blue and Purple.
