Facebook does a LinkedIn: Rolls out job application feature
Facebook is rolling out its job application feature, which was previously only available in the US and Canada, to over 40 countries. The new countries include Brazil, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The feature, available on iOS, Android, and the web, is aimed at helping both job seekers and businesses easily find the right professional fit. Here is more on it.
Filter jobs on Facebook with proximity, industry
Job seekers will now be able to discover vacancies using filters like proximity and industry, auto-fill applications with their Facebook profile information, and communicate via Messenger to schedule interviews. This can be done using the new Jobs dashboard on Facebook, available as a sidebar on the web and under the 'More' section on the mobile apps. They can also subscribe to specific company listings.
Companies can talk to applicants through Messenger
As for businesses, they can also post job openings on Facebook. The feature makes it easier for managers to sift through applications and directly reach out to the applicants through Messenger. They can post job listings in several places, including under a Jobs tab on their own Facebook Page, the Jobs dashboard, Facebook Marketplace, and the promotable News Feed.
People were already using Facebook to reach out to employers
According to Gaurav Dosi, the jobs product manager at Facebook, the social networking website was already noticing people using the platform to message local businesses about job openings. The feature is a result of such user behavior, he said. Further, Facebook's VP of Local Alex Himel, said, "One in four people in the US have searched for or found a job using Facebook."
The feature will help lower-skilled applicants to acquire jobs
The feature primarily targets local companies and lower-skilled applicants who don't have LinkedIn-worthy resumes and education histories. It will enable them to come across job opening even if they weren't actively looking for one and quickly apply to different positions by auto-inserting their profile information.
