Now, Facebook explains why a post appears on your feed
In a bid to enhance user control, Facebook has introduced a new tool, one that would explain why you are seeing a post on the platform. Just like the "Why am I seeing this ad?" button, you'll also get a "Why am I seeing this post" option to learn the exact reason behind a post's appearance. Here's how you can use the new option.
'Why am I seeing this post' to describe ranking factors
Facebook considers several factors, from your likes to followings, to determine which posts are relevant to you and should appear on the news feed. Now, with the new tool, the social network will show what factors were taken into account to display a particular post. Meaning, if you're seeing a dog photo, you'll be able to learn why it appeared in the first place.
What factors will be taken into account
Facebook's tool, as we said, will detail why a post appeared on your feed as well as the reason for its ranking. As part of the former, it will give you the name of the friend/page that shared the post in question. Meanwhile, the latter will list factors for ranking, like how often you've interacted with posts from that friend/page or the post's popularity.
Plus, media types would be taken into account
Facebook also considers media type (photos, videos, links) as a factor to rank posts and will show it as a reason for the appearance of posts. So, if you're seeing an image, it is because you interact more with photos than other media types.
You will also get controls for feed personalization
Along with the reason for a post's appearance, Facebook will also offer a certain set of options to help you take control of your news feed. Simply put, you will get quick access to the settings required for feed-personalizing features like See First, Unfollow, News Feed Preferences, and Privacy Shortcuts. This will help you customize your feed just as you want to.
How to use the new option
Using the new tool would be fairly simple for Facebook users. Basically, you'd find the 'Why am I seeing this post' button in the drop-down menu that appears in the right-hand corner of a post. Once you click on it, Facebook will display everything about that you need to know about the post in question.
