Facebook now lets you earn from stories: Here's how
What's the story
Facebook has launched a new feature that lets creators earn money from the views on their public stories.
The global monetization option is available for all creators who are part of the Facebook Content Monetization program.
By bringing monetization to stories, the social media giant hopes to offer an additional revenue stream for its users, encouraging them to create more content on the platform.
Monetization explained
Creators can monetize existing content
Now, creators can earn money from the content they already create and share, just by posting it to their Facebook story.
For example, a creator making a recipe video/reel can share a snippet of it on their story to earn money.
The new feature also applies to everyday life content that creators typically post on their stories.
Earnings criteria
No specific threshold for earnings
According to a company representative, story payouts are determined by content performance.
Creators can start earning money without needing to reach a specific threshold for views first.
This new feature comes as part of Meta's strategy to attract TikTok creators to Facebook and Instagram, offering them cash bonuses, content deals, and support in growing their communities.
Program details
Facebook's content monetization program
Creators already enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization program and have enabled content monetization won't have to do anything extra to begin story monetization.
The Content Monetization program, introduced last year, brings In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs under one roof.
Following Stories monetization testing with select beta participants, Facebook is now opening this option for all users in the program.
Program expansion
Future plans for content monetization program
In 2024, millions of creators were invited to join the Content Monetization program. Facebook plans to offer open enrollment later this year.
Meanwhile, creators not part of the program can express interest in an invite through the program's website.
Since introducing monetization opportunities in 2017, Facebook has reportedly paid more than four million creators and announced last October they earned over $2 billion on the platform in 2024.
