Facebook suffers major outage, thousands of users affected

Meta's popular social media platform Facebook suffered a major outage earlier today.
The disruption started at 7:36am and mostly impacted the website.
During the time, thousands of users were unable to access their feeds or send messages. They also encountered issues while attempting to log into their accounts.

The outage was reported by more than 18,000 users on DownDetector, with most of the issues revolving around website access.
Users were welcomed with an error message that said, "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."
However, Facebook's mobile app appeared to be working fine at the time.

According to DownDetector, 82% of users couldn't access the Facebook website during the outage. Meanwhile, 10% and 7% of users faced login and app issues, respectively.
The disruption also impacted Facebook Messenger and Instagram messaging services for nearly an hour.
Despite the widespread issues, Meta has not yet issued an official statement explaining the reason behind this outage.
However, the company seems to have fixed the root cause, bringing the platform back to normal.

The platform was inundated with screenshots of the error message from Facebook, adding to the speculation of what could have caused this disruption.
Outage reports started declining later, suggesting services were being restored.
