OPPO first OEM to offer Corning's Gorilla Glass 6
If you happen to have a smartphone in your hand, its display is probably protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass. In the latest update, the US-based specialist glass maker Corning has announced Gorilla Glass 6 (company's most durable glass to date) will become mainstream. And the first flagship smartphone to sport this new glass will be made by OPPO. Here's more on this development.
OPPO's flagship with Gorilla Glass 6 is coming soon: Corning
Corning has announced that China-based OPPO will be the first Global OEM to adopt the latest Gorilla Glass 6. The glassmaker further added that OPPO's upcoming flagship to use the latest glass cover technology "is slated for release in the coming weeks." However, it is uncertain which OPPO flagship - OPPO R17 or OPPO F9 Pro - will debut the Gorilla Glass 6.
Breakthrough technology, unbreakable glass
In a bid to make the newer generation of glass more durable than the previous ones, Corning scientists have "developed and engineered an entirely new material" that can survive multiple drops. In lab tests, Gorilla Glass 6 "survived 15 drops from 1 meter onto rough surfaces", making it twice as durable as its predecessor. Notably, alternative glass compositions did not survive the first drop.
Gorilla Glass 6 is next big thing in smartphone space
Corning, with its latest Gorilla Glass 6, is setting the new trend in smartphone space. The Gorilla Glass 6 comes with improved optical clarity, touch sensitivity, scratch resistance and durability. Moreover, since glass also allows for efficient wireless charging and better reception of higher data network like 5G, glass is no more limited to the front of the smartphone.
