Elon Musk becomes first to hit 200M followers on X
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first individual to amass 200 million followers on social media platform X. This achievement comes two years after Musk's $44 billion aquisition of Twitter, which has since been rebranded as X and is valued below $10 billion. Despite some media reports suggesting that a large portion of Musk's followers are inactive or fake accounts, his follower count remains unmatched.
Musk leads influential figures on X
Musk's follower count on X surpasses other influential figures such as former US President Barack Obama, who has a following of 131.9 million. Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo trails behind Obama with 113.2 million followers, while Canadian singer Justin Bieber and Barbadian artist Rihanna have amassed 110.3 million and 108.4 million followers, respectively. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also holds a significant position with a global following of 102.5 million on the platform.
X's user engagement and future plans
Data from the third quarter of this year shows that daily user-second on X increased by 12% year-over-year to 363.6 billion. The platform also saw a rise in monthly active users by 2% year-on-year, reaching 547.9 million. Additionally, daily video views experienced a significant surge of 43% year-on-year, hitting 8.9 billion views. Musk has previously stated that he envisions transforming X into an 'everything app,' allowing users to upload films and TV series as well as facilitate digital money transactions.
