#NotAFakeNews: Soon, we may see Tesla-branded tequila, Teslaquila
Soon, we might see an actual Tesla-branded tequila called 'Teslaquila'. On October 8, the electric car-maker filed an "intent to use" application for a trademark on the name 'Teslaquila'. Following this, Elon Musk, the CEO of the company, even tweeted a possible label of its bottle, hinting it might be coming out "soon". Here are more details.
It all started as an April Fools' Day prank
The term 'Teslaquila' first appeared on April 1 when Musk poked fun at Tesla's critics and joked about the company going bankrupt. He posted a picture of himself and tweeted, "Elon was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by "Teslaquilla" bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks." The next day Tesla's shares dipped, closing down 5.1%.
But now, that joke appears to become reality
Months after that prank, CNBC revealed Tesla has actually filed for a 'Teslaquila' trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The application, filed on October 8, describes the product as "distilled agave liquor" and "distilled blue agave" liquor. However, it has been filed as "based on intent to use", which indicates the tequila isn't ready as a product, at least not yet.
Musk says coming soon, tweets label's possible picture
On Friday, Musk took note of the CNBC report and confirmed that Teslaquila will be "coming soon". In fact, he even posted a visual approximation showcasing what the bottle's label would roughly look like. The mock-up featured a familiar Tesla logo with Teslaquila branding right under it. However, it still remains unclear when the tequila would hit the shelves.

Musk and his previous 'different' products
Though automakers often use their brand to sell lifestyle products and accessories, hard liquor could be a first in the industry. However, considering it is Musk we're talking about, it is not even a surprise. In the past, the billionaire has launched a number of limited edition products, starting from caps to surfboards and even flamethrowers.
