You can use emojis like shovel, fingerprint from next year
The Unicode Consortium, a non-profit organization responsible for global emoji standards and releases, has approved eight new emojis. These symbols will be available on smartphones and computers next year. The upcoming additions include an exhausted face with bags under its eyes, a leafless tree, a root vegetable, a harp, a fingerprint, a shovel, a purple splatter and the flag of Sark Island in the English Channel.
Emojipedia previews new emojis
Emojipedia, a renowned emoji reference site, had previously shared sample images of the upcoming emojis. The platform has announced that users will be able to access these new symbols across various digital platforms over the next few months, and throughout 2025. This update is expected to enhance digital communication, by introducing more diverse and expressive icons for users worldwide.
Exhausted face emoji wins 'most anticipated' title
The exhausted face emoji has been recognized as the "most anticipated" symbol in the World Emoji Awards, securing over 60% of the total votes. The purple splatter and shovel emojis also gained popularity, ranking second and third respectively. These new symbols are expected to resonate with users, by accurately representing their emotions and experiences in digital communication.
Leafless tree emoji: A symbol for climate change awareness
The leafless tree emoji, submitted by Brian Baihaki to the Unicode Consortium, is designed to highlight the issues of drought and climate change. Baihaki said, "Drought is a natural part of climate cycle, for million of years trees have adapted to these harsh condition." He further emphasized that "the climate is changing, drought become more frequent, severe and even spread to other places in short amount of time."
Tech giants add unique touches to emoji designs
Tech giants like Apple and Google's Android often add their unique touches to the standard emoji designs. However, these interpretations can sometimes lead to controversy. For instance, Google faced criticism for its beer and hamburger emojis due to design inaccuracies. Despite these occasional controversies, the introduction of new emojis continues to be a significant event in the world of digital communication.
