Microsoft enhances Copilot AI with voice and vision capabilities
Microsoft is gearing up to give its Copilot AI a makeover across web, mobile, and desktop platforms. The tech giant wants to make Copilot a go-to part of users' daily lives, moving beyond just generative AI search and image creation. The upgrade will come with a more user-friendly interface and cool new features like Copilot Voice, letting users chat with the AI assistant.
Copilot AI: A new look and accessibility
The latest update gives Copilot a fresh look, making it stand out from traditional search engines. This new interface is now available on the web, iOS, Android, and Windows platforms. Plus, users can access Copilot via WhatsApp, offering an alternative to Meta's AI assistant.
Microsoft introduces experimental AI features
Microsoft is rolling out more experimental AI features via Copilot Labs. The fresh additions include Copilot Vision and Think Deeper. You'll need a Copilot Pro subscription for them. Copilot Vision lets the AI see everything you're browsing in Edge. Meanwhile, Think Deeper is all about helping Copilot handle tricky problems. These features are "opt-in and ephemeral," meaning no data will be stored for AI training. Also, any data from a session will be wiped out as soon as it's done.
Microsoft's commitment to privacy and security
After facing some hiccups with the Recall feature's security, Microsoft is on a mission to win back user trust. Pavan Davuluri, who heads Windows at Microsoft, said the company has "gone above and beyond" to set new security standards for Recall. He pointed out that users are looking for confidence when handling sensitive data.
New features and staggered release
Microsoft's also rolling out some less controversial features like Copilot Daily and Copilot Discover. Copilot Daily uses Copilot Voice to give you daily news, weather updates, and reminders for your tasks. On the other hand, Copilot Discover offers tips on AI features based on how you've used Microsoft services in the past. Just a heads-up, though: these new features will be released in different regions and languages at different times.
