Throwflame's 'Thermonator' is a flamethrower-equipped robot dog: How it works
Throwflame, a tech company, has launched its latest product - a flamethrower-equipped robot dog named "Thermonator." Initially introduced to the public last summer, this robust four-legged machine is now officially available for purchase. To celebrate its debut, Throwflame released a video, showcasing the Thermonator navigating through a forest and emitting flames in various directions.
The Thermonator is not designed as a weapon
Despite its formidable appearance, the Thermonator is designed for wildlife management, agricultural tasks, and entertainment purposes rather than as a weapon. The robot dog comes with a hefty price tag of $9,420 (₹7.84 lakh). It appears to be built off the Unitree Go1 model which costs up to $3,500 (₹2.9 lakh). According to Throwflame, their version of the robot includes LiDAR mapping capabilities, for potential autonomous navigation.
Thermonator is equipped with a $900 flamethrower
The Thermonator is equipped with Throwflame's compact and "ultra modular" ARC Flamethrower, which costs up to $899 (₹74,900). The robot dog features WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and can be controlled via a phone that gets a live first-person video feed from its camera. This technology allows operators to stay at a safe distance, while the Thermonator discharges fire up to 30 feet away, targeting with an ominous laser sight.
The Thermonator has some limitations
Despite its impressive features, the Thermonator has some limitations. Its battery life lasts only one hour and it has a relatively small fuel tank. These factors do not diminish its potential for causing significant damage if not handled responsibly. The company emphasizes the importance of responsible use given the robot's ability to discharge fire up to 30 feet away.
