Shanghai-based start-up unveils autonomous EV charging robot: Everything we know
Shanghai-based start-up, Zongmu Technology, is set to transform the electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape, with its autonomous charging robot, FlashBot. The company plans to introduce this innovative solution in mainland China, and has aspirations for international expansion within the year. Equipped with L4 autonomous driving capability, and a capacity of 104kWh, FlashBot wants to address the growing demand for EV charging stations. It will offer services in diverse locations such as car parks, streets, and remote areas.
Flashbot: A remedy to insufficient charging infrastructure
Zongmu's CEO and founder, Tang Rui, likens FlashBot to a 'power bank' for smartphones. He views it as a solution to the current scarcity of charging infrastructure. Tang highlights that the global increase in demand for EVs has exposed a significant need for more electricity chargers. He also notes that the inadequate charging infrastructure is impeding many economies and decelerating EV adoption.
Flashbot to debut in Shanghai
Zongmu plans to launch FlashBot in China's major cities this year, with Shanghai being the first. Tang expressed gratitude for the support from Shanghai's municipal government, and confirmed that other major Chinese cities will follow suit. He asserts that their autonomous energy robot offers greater efficiency and flexibility, than traditional charging stations while keeping costs low. The company is also working on expansion opportunities with potential partners in Hong Kong, Europe, and North America.
Zongmu Technology's journey and future plans
Zongmu Technology was established by Tang and his mother Li Xiaoning in 2013. The company primarily focuses on intelligent driving systems. Early investors include Qualcomm (China) Holdings, Private Equity Investment Fund, Fosun (Chongqing), and Hubei Xiaomi Yangtze River Industry Fund Partnership. In March, Zongmu applied for listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange, a move Tang believes will enhance their portfolio and reputation as they plan to penetrate major global markets.
Zongmu's clientele and market presence
Zongmu's clientele primarily comprises Chinese car manufacturers, who utilize its autonomous driving solutions and products. The company also offers autonomous parking solutions for passenger cars in China. Tang revealed that Zongmu had business deals with all top 10 OEMs in China by sales volume in 2022, representing 72.1% of the mainland market. The company ventured into the energy robot business about two years ago.
