'Hot guy though'—Altman admits ChatGPT bug only drawing 'sexy men'
What's the story
ChatGPT's latest image generation feature has been discovered to have a bug that prevents it from generating images of "sexy women."
The problem was initially flagged by an X user who claimed to be a software engineer.
The glitch was flagged soon after the feature's debut, prompting questions about its functionality and bias.
The new AI tool generates detailed and life-like images from specific prompts.

CEO's response
OpenAI CEO acknowledges the bug
Responding to the issue, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted generating images of sexy women "should be allowed" and confirmed it was a "bug" that would be fixed.
He added, "Hot guy though!" to the image of the man created by the tool.
Despite the glitch, ChatGPT was able to create an image of a "hot woman" when prompted by Business Insider.
This inconsistency has raised further questions about the reliability and objectivity of the AI tool.
Image generation guidelines
Restrictions on generating images of real people
ChatGPT's image generator comes with certain limitations when it comes to generating images of real people.
When Business Insider requested an image of Altman, ChatGPT said it couldn't create an exact likeness but could create a "character inspired by his features with a unique, artistic twist."
OpenAI had previously announced that there are "heightened restrictions" on requests for images of real people, especially those involving nudity or graphic violence.
Opt-out option
Public figures can opt out of image generation
OpenAI has clarified that it won't completely block the ability to generate images of adult public figures.
The decision opens the door for potential uses in educational, historical, satirical, and political speech.
However, public figures can opt-out their image from this feature if they want.
Talking about the tool's launch, Altman called it an "incredible technology/product" that would give users unprecedented creative control.
Safety measures
Improved safety features and user control
OpenAI has also improved safety features in the new model to ensure responsible use. Every AI-generated image will carry metadata via C2PA, showing it was created by GPT-4o.
The company has also built an internal search tool for verifying content and detecting AI-generated visuals.
Altman stressed that while users have intellectual freedom with this tool, OpenAI will monitor its usage and adjust policies as necessary.
Availability
Feature now available to Plus, Pro, Team, and free users
The image generation feature is now available to Plus, Pro, Team, and Free users in ChatGPT. Enterprise and Education users are expected to gain access soon.
OpenAI also announced that developers will be able to use this feature via the API in the coming weeks.
The AI firm is focusing on improving precision for editing images and enhancing the model's ability to maintain consistency in facial features while modifying user-uploaded images.
