CES 2019: Biggest product announcements from Samsung's keynote
At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung has showcased some really cool stuff leveraging AI and machine learning capabilities. The company celebrated 50 years in the electronics business and unveiled several products, including some incredible televisions and smart home appliances. It even demoed a cute health care robot. Let's look at the highlights from Samsung's keynote.
Modular 'Wall' MicroLED TVs
Last year at CES, Samsung showcased a 146-inch modular MicroLED called 'The Wall'. The TV formed from separate tiles of self-emissive micro-LEDs and eliminated the drawbacks of OLED panels with longer-life, deeper blacks, and perfect brightness. This year, Samsung added two more variants into the Wall family: a 75-inch 4K microLED for homes and a humongous 219-inch version designed to showcase its sheer expandability.
Then, it was this monstrous 8K QLED TV
Along with microLEDs, Samsung also demoed a humongous 98-inch 8K QLED TV. While we expected 4K QLED upgrades, Samsung seems more intent on expanding the 8K family, which already includes 65-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch, 85-inch TVs. The new TV will come with HMDI 2.1 but will pack the same features from existing models, including features like direct LED backlight for producing 4,000 nits of brightness.
No word on pricing or availability
The TVs demoed by Samsung will make up the future, but as of now, there's no word on their pricing or availability. Notably, the South Korean giant also announced that its upcoming televisions will take voice commands via Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
Smart Family Hub Fridge, Washing machine
Samsung also touched the smart home space by introducing a new generation of 'Family Hub' smart refrigerator and a new smart washer. The Bixby-powered fridge with a massive screen can do a lot in your kitchen, starting from telling what it holds to notifying if you've left the door open. Similarly, the front-load washer also packs some amazing features, including a new super-fast mode.
Plus, new powerful notebooks
At the event, Samsung also showcased a few notebooks, including a creativity-focused machine dubbed 'Notebook 9 Pro'. It features a convertible metallic body, Active Pen, thin bezels, and top-of-the-line Intel Core i7 Processor and Intel UHD 620 GPU. Apart from this one, Samsung also unveiled low-end 'Notebook Flash' and gaming-focused 'Notebook Odyssey' with NVIDIA RTX 2080 and a 'penta pipe' cooling system.
Finally, it was Samsung's adorable bot care
Samsung closed its hour-long presentation by giving a glimpse of its work in the robotics industry. The company showcased its Bot Care project, where a cute little robot showed up at the stage and measured blood pressure and heart-rate. It is not clear when this bot would come out, but seems like it can do a lot for managing stress and tracking health.
