Huawei Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Camera comparison
Huawei's Mate 30 Pro and P30 Pro are two of the most powerful camera smartphones money can buy today. The flagship handsets pack hi-tech quad-camera systems on the back, offering DSLR-like quality and great versatility when it comes to shooting in different scenarios. But photography-wise, how do these phones compare to each other and which one is actually better? Let's find out.
Here's a look at the camera specifications
The Mate 30 Pro's camera system comprises a 40MP (f/1.6,) primary sensor, a 40MP (f/1.8) ultra-wide-angle sensor, 8MP (f/2.4, 3x zoom) telephoto lens, and a 3D depth sensor. In comparison, the P30 Pro offers a similar quad-lens setup with a 40MP (f/1.6) primary sensor, 20MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle sensor, 8MP (f/3.4, 5x zoom) telephoto sensor, and a Time-of-Flight camera.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Main sensor (Daylight)
The main camera on both the smartphones is the identical 40MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture. However, the final images are not really the same. The Mate 30 Pro captures more details with sharper pictures and better color accuracy whereas, on the P30 Pro, the blue skies appear more saturated or boosted. As for dynamic range, it's nearly the same on both the cameras.
Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Main sensor (Low light)
In low-light, the Mate 30 Pro shines. The images show good sharpness, improved dynamic range, and excellent color representation (except under warm lighting). In comparison, the low-light performance of P30 Pro is great but it loses to the Mate 30 Pro by a slight margin.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Ultra-wide-angle sensor (Daylight)
Since there is a difference in hardware, the images captured through the ultra-wide-angle sensor on both phones aren't the same. The Mate 30 Pro captures in narrower 3:2 format but the pictures are a lot sharper and detailed than the ones taken with P30 Pro's slightly wider lens (4:3). In terms of dynamic range and shadows, the Mate 30 Pro is better.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Ultra-wide-angle sensor (Low-light)
With a superior ultra-wide-angle sensor, the Mate 30 Pro performs great in low-light as well. The wider aperture allows more light which, in turn, results in more details. The low-light ultra-wide-angle photos taken with the P30 Pro are good but not great.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro v/s P30 Pro: Telephoto sensor
Though Mate 30 Pro has an overall more capable camera system, its 3x telephoto lens can't match the reach offered by P30 Pro's 5x periscope zoom unit. In daylight, the P30 Pro really stands out with its telephoto sensor. However, in darker scenarios, both phones offer below-average images, considering the sensors capture fewer details and are poorly stabilized shots at such focal lengths.
