Privacy-focused Brave search engine embraces AI to answer your queries
Brave, a privacy-focused search engine, has launched an upgrade to its answer engine. This new feature, called Answer with AI, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate synthesized responses to user queries. Now available worldwide, it aims to provide succinct answers to questions such as "People who walked on the moon," "List of all actors who played Batman" or "How to descale Nespresso pixie." The latest feature is a significant advancement from AI-powered summarization tool, which Brave introduced in March 2023.
It utilizes large language models
The "Answer with AI" feature is capable of summarizing reviews and key points. Informational queries will now be automatically processed by AI, presenting users with summarized information. For other types of queries, users can manually initiate an AI search. Brave's new feature uses a combination of large language models (LLMs) and reliable data sources, per the company. The primary models used are Mixtral 8x7B and Mistral 7B, supplemented by custom transformer models for semantic matching and response generation.
Brave acknowledges potential impact on web publishers
Despite the potential benefits of AI-powered searches, there are concerns about their impact on the future of the web. Brave, serveing more than 10 billion queries a year, has acknowledged these worries, stating that while users appreciate AI-enhanced answers and innovative content consumption methods, such approaches could potentially harm web publishers. The company has committed to monitoring the effects of AI-generated content on site visits and addressing any issues arising from traffic decreases.
