BlackBerry to launch high-end smartphone called Ghost in India: Reports
According to media reports, BlackBerry is working on bringing a premium phone to India called the BlackBerry Ghost. The news was first broken by the famous tipster and gadget-unearther Evan Blass, who is known for leaking information and images of smartphones and other electronic devices well before their official launch. Here is more on BlackBerry's latest attempt to keep relevant in the smartphone market.
The phone will be premium, Android, and bezel-less
BlackBerry has licensed out the phone to Delhi-based Optiemus
So this is how it works. BlackBerry has stopped designing and creating phones since 2016, but the company still licenses the brand out so that a few phones keep coming in its name here and there. This time, the phone has been licensed out to Optiemus, a Delhi-based manufacturer and distributor of telecom products.
BlackBerry and Optiemus partnered in 2017
The two companies had entered a licensing agreement last year, under which Optiemus agreed to make phones with BlackBerry's Android-based security software. Other companies to which BlackBerry frequently licenses out its phones are China's TCL and Indonesia's BB Merah Putih.
The phone can be exclusive to India
So far the only known detail is that the slim, Android phone will feature a bezel-less display with maybe an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is quite possible that the high-end BlackBerry Ghost comes as an exclusive entity for India. It can be expected to launch in the next couple of months in the country.
