    What's the story

    Black Shark has announced its 5 series of smartphones in China. The line-up includes the 5, 5 RS, and 5 Pro models.

    As for the key highlights, they feature a 144Hz AMOLED display, 120W fast-charging, a built-in VC cooling system, and a top-tier Snapdragon chipset.

    The phones are currently available for pre-order and will go on sale from April 2 onward.

    Black Shark's 5 series of gaming smartphones is finally here with impressive hardware and some cool features to attract mobile games. The handsets feature SharkEye RGB light effect at the rear. The Pro models boasts a DXOMARK's top-ranked speaker setup.

    The 5, 5 RS, and the top-end 5 Pro take on rivals from brands such as Nubia and ASUS.

    Design and display

    The devices feature a 144Hz AMOLED display

    The Black Shark 5 series has a punch-hole cut-out, slim bezels, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. On the rear, they have a triple camera setup, paired with an LED flash.

    The devices bear a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (1080x2400 pixels) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz, a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 720Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 1300-nits of peak brightness.

    Cameras

    The Pro model has a 108MP main camera

    The Black Shark 5 has a 64MP primary camera, 13MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP macro shooter. The RS model has a similar setup but with an 8MP ultra-wide camera.

    The Pro variant gets a 108MP main snapper, 13MP ultra-wide lens, and 5MP tele-macro camera.

    Up front, the 5 and 5 Pro have a 16MP selfie camera while the RS variant packs a 20MP snapper.

    Internals

    The handsets boot Android 12

    The 5, 5 RS, and 5 Pro are powered by Snapdragon 870, Snapdragon 888/888+, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors, respectively. They run on Android 12 with JoyUI 13 on top.

    The Pro model packs up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, whereas the 5 and 5 RS come with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

    They support 120W fast-charging

    The Black Shark 5, 5 RS, and 5 Pro support 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, a headphone jack, and a Type-C port. The 5 RS packs a 4,500mAh battery, while the 5 and 5 Pro have a 4,650mAh battery. All three support 120W fast-charging.

    Black Shark 5 series: Pricing and availability

    The Black Shark 5 starts at CNY 2,799 (nearly Rs. 33,400) for the 8GB/128GB variant and goes up to CNY 3,299 (approximately Rs. 39,400) for the 12GB/256GB model.

    The 5 RS costs CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 39,400) for 8GB/256GB (with Snapdragon 888) and CNY 3,799​​​ (nearly Rs. 45,350) for 12GB/256GB (with Snapdragon 888+).

    The 5 Pro ranges from CNY 4,199-5,499 (approximately Rs. 50,120-65,640).
