People can soon "talk" to our devices via Bixby: Samsung
Samsung, after announcing the upgraded version of its Bixby digital assistant -the Bixby 2.0- now wants users to "talk and communicate" with its phones in order to "get more value" out of them. Samsung North America President-CEO, Tim Baxter, said they want to use "voice" as the next user interface, adding Bixby voice assistant will power all Samsung devices going forward. Know more!

Bixby will bring voice user-interface to phones, TVs, appliances: Baxter
At Yahoo Finance-All Markets Summit, Baxter said Bixby 2.0 brings the user interface not only to Samsung's phones but also televisions, appliances, and other devices. He added, this "will create new multi-device experiences and new benefits for consumers." Bixby was launched on Samsung Galaxy S8. Initially, things were rough as the device lacked voice recognition out-of-the-box; however since then the functionality has been improved.
Devices powered by Bixby personal assistant
Tim Baxter says he envisions an ecosystem of Bixby-enabled devices across consumer households. He added if users want to see what's in their refrigerator, they will be able to ask Bixby and immediately get a view of the fridge's content on their smartphone. Last week, Samsung Vice-President Eui-Suk Chung also envisioned a similar scenario while announcing the Bixby 2.0.

Chung said: "We see a world where digital assistants play a bigger role, an intelligent role, where one day everything from our phones...to our sprinkler system will have some sort of intelligence to help us seamlessly interact with all the technology we use each day."
Getting more out of device using just voice: Baxter
Tim Baxter said phones are becoming "more and more complex" with "more and more power" in them. He added Samsung is focusing on using machine learning to do stuff on devices so that users intuitively just tell the digital assistant to take selfies and post them online, shutdown or mute the phone, set the alarm, or decrease the brightness of the device.
Samsung Bixby not as smart as Alexa or Google Assistant
Bixby's biggest rival competitors are Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant, and Apple's Siri. But, Baxter says unlike other assistants, which serve purposes like online shopping or searching the web, Bixby is designed specifically to communicate with Samsung's devices. However, Bixby still lacks the kind of intelligence Alexa or Google Assistant offer. Samsung claims its assistant will become more knowledgeable and take on the rivals.
