Electric cars are in the spotlight at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018 where the electric vehicles space reportedly saw the most activity. With the Indian Government planning to sell only electric cars by 2030, carmakers are racing to launch green vehicles. At the event, almost every major automaker has showcased an electric car. Mercedes-Benz showcases the all-new EQ Concept
German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz has showcased its futuristic electric car EQ Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo, which was "the star" of the carmaker's stable. Mercedes claims EQ Concept has a power output of 400hp and uses a dual electric motor. The all-new EV can run 500km on a single charge and is powered by a lithium-ion battery. It can touch 0-100kmph within 5 seconds.
Tata Motors launches Racemo electric car
Tata Motors unveiled the "Racemo +-", the all-electric variant of the company's Racemo sports car. It is powered by a 200hp electric motor with 210Nm of peak torque and a lithium-ion battery pack; a single charge gives the EV a range of 350km. The two-seater car comes with a 6-speed AMT; the carmaker says the electric Racemo can do 0-100kmph within 6 seconds.
The electric version of the Hyundai Ioniq car
South Korean automaker Hyundai has showcased the electric variant of its compact five-door hatchback Ioniq at Auto Expo. It is powered by a 118hp electric-motor with 295Nm of peak torque. It packs a 28.9kWH battery. Ioniq EV can reach 0-100kmph in only 10.2 seconds with a maximum speed of 165kmph and has a 280km range. Hyundai is reportedly working on another affordable India-specific EV.
Renault Trezor Concept EV at the Auto Expo
Renault has showcased the Trezor concept EV at the Auto Expo 2018. Its powertrain is derived from a Formula E car and delivers 348bhp with a 380Nm of peak torque. It packs two huge air-cooled batteries - one at the front and another at the rear. The two-seater car can reach 0-100kmph within 4 seconds. The maximum range of the EV hasn't been specified.
BMW i3s also showcased at 2018 Auto Expo
The global premium best-seller BMW i3 compact battery-electric vehicle has been showcased at the auto show. It comes with am 181bhp electric motor that delivers a peak torque of 269Nm. It also has an upgraded drive system including modified motor control and specific taper roller bearings. It has a 33kWH battery and can reach 0-100kmph within 6.9 seconds. The car has a 280km range.
Suzuki shows off e-Survivor EV
Suzuki unveiled the e-Survivor Concept in 2017 and it now brought the car to India at the Auto Expo. The concept EV, a two-seater car without a roof, sports four in-wheel electric motors. The car also has autonomous driving capabilities.
Uniti Electric car makes India debut
Swedish automotive start-up Uniti showcased its electric car called Uniti Electric at Auto Expo. It is expected to arrive in India by 2020 and has tied up with Delhi-based Bird Group to launch the EV. It is a five-seater electric car. It can drive for up to 200kms on a single-charge. The EV has a recyclable carbon fiber body and an organic composite interior.
