Atari's remake of '7800' gaming console now available for pre-order
Atari, the iconic video game company, has announced a compact remake of its classic console, the Atari 7800. The new version is named Atari 7800 Plus and is compatible with both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges. This modernized console is a result of a collaboration between Atari and Plaion. It features an HDMI port for easy connection to contemporary televisions. It is now available for pre-order.
A miniaturized version of the original
The Atari 7800 Plus is priced at $129.99 (roughly ₹10,900), with a global launch expected in winter 2024. The design of this console closely mirrors its original 1986 counterpart, albeit in a reduced size. Players have the option to run games in either widescreen mode or a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio, maintaining the nostalgic experience of retro gaming.
The device comes with wireless gamepad
The Atari 7800 Plus package includes a new CX78 Plus Wireless Gamepad, a modern version of the original two-button controller. This gamepad can be bought separately for $34.99 (roughly ₹2,900), and is compatible with the Atari 2600 Plus mini-console released last year. It can also connect to a PC using a USB-C adapter, providing versatile gaming options for users.
It offers 'near-perfect compatibility' with original games
Atari claims that the 7800 Plus offers "near-perfect compatibility" with both original and third-party Atari games. The console will come with a single game, Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest, a sequel to Crystal Castles. Additionally, 10 other titles will be available for purchase separately at $29.99 (roughly ₹2,500) each. This ensures that fans of the classic console have access to a range of gaming options on the new device.
