ASUS ZenFone 5Z, 5: iPhone X's Android brothers
ASUS has unveiled two new smartphones, namely the ZenFone 5Z and ZenFone 5, at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Both the smartphones feature an all-screen display along with top-of-the-line specs, much worthy of being the company's 2018 flagship smartphones. However, ASUS hasn't provided any information about the release dates of its new handsets. Here's our roundup on the two smartphones.
Notch is the new normal
Both, ZenFone 5Z and 5 feature glass-covered bodies with a nearly bezel-less screen and a notch at the top which allows for a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Weighing at 155g, both smartphones sport a 6.2-inch full-HD+ super widescreen IPS LCD display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. With a shimmery designed back-panel, both the smartphones are available in two color variants- Midnight Blue or Meteor Silver.
For the shutterbugs
The ASUS Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone 5 have an iPhone X-like vertically aligned rear dual-camera setup featuring a 12MP f/1.8 main camera along with an 8MP f/2.2 sensor, 120-degree wide-angle secondary lens. On the front panel, we get an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter with 3-axis EIS available for both the front and rear cameras and a pro-mode allowing for manual configuration of image settings.
Under the hood
The main differences between the otherwise identical phones, lie in what's under their hoods. The Zenfone 5Z gets up to 8GB of RAM and Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 chipset while Zenfone 5 packs 4GB of RAM along with a mid-range Snapdragon 636 processor. Likewise, the Zenfone 5Z also gets more storage with up to 256GB built in as against 64GB on the Zenfone 5.
AI finds another use
While both the phones get 3,300mAh batteries and standard fast-charging, ASUS here has something new to offer - 'AI Charging'. This essentially means the battery can monitor your charging habits and accordingly adjust the charge rate and thus slower the ageing of the batteries.
Only flagship stuff
The internal storage on both the phones is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). For connectivity, both phones include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Both th phones also offer dual speakers with dual NXP smart amplifiers and three internal microphones with noise reduction and Hi-Res Audio.
