Apple may enhance Journal app with AI features
Apple is reportedly planning to enhance its Journal app, which was launched as part of iOS 17.2, by integrating it with Apple Intelligence. This information comes from a recent patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent reveals several potential improvements for the Journal app, including a deep connection with Apple Intelligence to offer smart suggestions.
AI to enhance user experience
The Journal app currently provides basic suggestions for memories based on images, music listened to, places visited, and people texted. However, the new patent indicates that Apple aims to improve these suggestions using artificial intelligence (AI). The AI system would proactively prompt users to record memory in the Journal app, after activities such as completing a workout or taking multiple photos at the same location.
Journal app to sync with calendar events and reminders
The patent also suggests that Apple intends to synchronize the Journal app with calendar events and reminders. This feature could further enhance user experience by providing a more seamless integration of their daily activities into the app. Additionally, the patent unveils a new timeline interface where users can view events of the same day as if they were in a chat, replacing the current format of cards with a cover and small text.
AI features in Journal app: A limited preview
While these improvements are expected to be part of iOS 18, Apple has not yet made an official announcement regarding the integration of Apple Intelligence into its Journal app. This could be due to the fact that AI features are currently only available as a limited preview. As of now, there is no indication whether these enhancements will extend to iPad and Mac versions of the Journal app.
