#LeakPeek: Apple's next smartwatch could come with Touch ID support
Apple Watch Series 6, the tech giant's next wearable, is likely to be released this fall. It would come with a slew of new features including a built-in Touch ID sensor. According to a joint report by The Verifier and iUpdate, the upcoming Apple smartwatch will offer Touch ID support, blood oxygen sensing capability, as well as a sleep tracking feature. Here's more.
Touch ID will be integrated into the Apple Watch crown
According to the report, Apple will bundle the Touch ID support on its smartwatch by embedding a capacitive sensor into the Digital Crown. This feature will surely add more security as well as make it easier for the wearer to unlock the device, while, say, authenticating payments. In the current-generation models, you require a 4-digit passcode for the same.
Next-generation Apple Watch will also support SpO2 monitoring
Apple is also set to expand the health features of the Apple Watch by adding support for blood oxygen detection. The feature was first spotted in iOS 14 and has been confirmed by the latest report as well. Blood oxygen level, generally denoted by SpO2, is an estimate of the amount of oxygen in the blood.
The wearable will also be able to track sleep
Some code snippets found in watchOS 7 have also confirmed that Apple Watch is getting a sleep tracking feature. Reportedly, a personalized sleep goal will be added to the Health app to monitor your sleep and help you improve your sleep duration and quality.
However, Apple Watch Series 6 won't get a design makeover
The report further noted that the Apple Watch Series 6 will not get a design makeover. It will retain the same aesthetics of the existing Series 5 version. That said, Apple may improve the water-resistance on the upcoming model. Further, it will also debut watchOS 7 software that will include features like parental controls and some new watch faces.
